First lingerie line for transgender women launches

Sexy underthings for transgender women are finally here.
They tuck in some places and add curves in others — ideal for people who identify as female but don’t have the body type to fit into typical women’s lingerie.
It’s a crucial market that was neglected by the fashion world for too long, says Chrysalis Lingerie co-founder Cy Lauz.
“Speaking from personal experience, I needed this,” Lauz, a NYC-based designer, told the Daily News. “I wanted something like this. And I knew there were thousands of other Trans women just like me out there on a global scale.”

Chrysalis bras contain full cup silicone inserts to give flat chests the illusion of curves. Lauz, who was born a male but transitioned into being a female in 2006, says the bras also appeal to women who have had mastectomies.
The “T-string” — a cheeky modification of the “G-string,” but for transgenders — is made of mesh elastic that “comfortably tucks, holds and smooths out our bikini area for a seamless look.”

As a young fashion stylist, Lauz struggled to find underwear that made her feel pretty when she was transitioning.
“I was accustomed to seeing and being around beautifully, well-made things that made you feel pretty and evoked a feeling of confidence,” Lauz said. “Now, when it came to underwear, I felt anything but pretty.”
But it’s not only the transgender-friendly functions that make the line so important, Lauz said.
“I think it’s more about having, owning and using something made specifically for you,” she said. “I think we can all agree that the custom made, impeccably tailored designer dress is far more enjoyable and fulfilling than something off the rack.
“Everyone wants and likes to feel special. And that I think is something we can all relate to.”
The garments — which come in larger sizes than normally offered in women’s lingerie — are launching this spring. They’ll be for sale on Chrysalis’ website, along with corsets, nightgowns and accessories.
